Success is an app that helps you stick to your plans, and a portal where businesses give something to people who do. Success is run from Toronto, Canada.
This page explains what we store, why we store it, and who else sees it. If you have a question, email hello@successapp.co and we will answer.
The short version
Most of what you do in the app stays on your phone. We only store what a feature needs to work. Businesses never find out who you are. We do not sell your information, we do not show ads, and we do not give your information to advertisers.
If you use the app
We store:
- Your email address, and the name and handle you pick. You sign in with a six digit code sent to your email, or with Apple or Google. There is no password.
- Anything you choose to add in Your details: your birthday, gender, country and city. You can leave these blank. Some business offers are only for people aged 18 and over, so without a birthday you cannot get those.
- A few facts about each activity you track: what it counts, how it is measured, and where it happens. If you keep an activity private, we do not store its name.
- One line for each time you prove you did something: which activity it was, the date, how long it took if your phone knows, and how you proved it.
- Anything you choose to share, such as a post to the people you added, a message in a group, or money you promised to give away if you miss.
- If you turn on notifications, a code from Apple that lets us send them to your phone.
We do not store, and never receive: your photos and videos, your private notes, your calendar, your contacts, your location, or the time of day you did something.
If you read a bank statement, your phone sends us the names of shops it cannot recognise, so we can tell you what kind of shop each one is. We keep those names in one shared list, with nobody's details attached. We never receive the amounts, the dates, or the statement itself.
We use what we store to sign you in, to show the people you added what you shared, to send the notifications you asked for, and to work out when you have earned a business offer.
If you are a business using the portal
We store your business name, contact email, what kind of business it is, your city, your website, the words you write about yourself, your photos and logo, your branches, and your offers.
When you write an offer, we send the words of that offer to an AI service once, so we can work out which kinds of activity should count towards it. We do not send anything about any app user with it.
You see numbers, never people. You can see how many people earned an offer and how many used it, and totals by age group, country and gender. We only show a group when it is big enough that no one person can be identified, and we round numbers when more than one thing is shown at a time.
If you connect your Shopify store
You connect your store through Shopify itself, by approving our app in your own Shopify account. After that we store:
- your store address, such as yourstore.myshopify.com
- the key Shopify gives us for your store, which we encrypt
- the discount codes we create in your store for your offers
- for each order that used one of our codes: the order number, the code, the date, and the order total
We use the key for two things only. We create a discount code when someone earns your offer, and we read your recent orders so we can count the sales that used those codes.
We do not receive or store anything about your customers. No names, emails, phone numbers, addresses, or what they bought.
If you remove our app in Shopify, or press Disconnect in the portal, we delete your store and its key straight away. Codes we already gave out keep working in your shop until you cancel them there.
Other companies involved
- Render runs our servers and database. They are in Oregon, in the United States, so that is where your information is kept.
- Apple and Google check your email address when you sign in that way. Apple also delivers our notifications.
- Anthropic provides the AI we use for some wording in the app, for sorting shop names, and for reading a business offer. We send it short pieces of text. We never send your email address, handle, photos or notes.
- Shopify, if you are a business that connected a store.
- Every.org handles the donation when you miss something you promised money against. They take the payment. We never see your card details.
- Open-Meteo and Photon provide the city list in the portal. They only receive the letters typed into that box.
That is the full list. No advertisers, no data brokers, no tracking companies.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while your account exists. In the app you can tap "Delete everything and close the account", and we delete your account and what we store for it. A business can email us to close its account, and everything it added to the portal is deleted with it. We keep basic records of payments because the law requires it.
Your choices
- Leave any optional detail blank.
- Turn sharing off, and nothing of yours is sent anywhere.
- Turn notifications off.
- Delete your account in the app.
- Email hello@successapp.co to ask what we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it. We reply within 30 days.
Age
Success is for people aged 18 and over.
Changes to this page
If we change this page, we change the date at the top. If a change matters, we also say so in the app or in the portal.
